News Release Credit Union First to Go Live With New United Way Program -
(December 12 - Latham, NY) – Westchester Federal Credit Union is the first financial institution to go live with a new philanthropic program from United Way that was launched this morning at a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. United Way’s new initiative, "Pennies for Change," provides the opportunity for members/customers of participating financial institutions to automatically donate one penny for each credit or debit card transaction. The donations will help fund United Way programs in local communities. According to the Nilson Report, more than 40 billion card purchases are made nationwide by Americans per year. "Pennies for Change" serves as a simple, but revolutionary way for consumers to donate to their local United Way every time they make a purchase. Participating in this morning’s announcement were Alex Sanchez, senior vice president, Community Impact, United Way of America; David Schropfer, managing director, Waldron Holdings, LLC; Ray Wolff, CEO, Westchester Federal Credit Union; and Kimberly McCumber-Ploof, executive in charge, Covera Card Solutions. Westchester Federal Credit Union first heard about the program in its planning stages from a friend at the United Way of Westchester and Putnam. Knowing they wanted to participate, the credit union contacted Covera Card Solutions, their credit card processing partner, to see if they could put the program into operation. With Covera’s help, the credit union became the first financial institution to implement "Pennies for Change." "Westchester Federal Credit Union thanks Covera for helping us participate in this important initiative from United Way of America," said Wolff, the credit union’s CEO. "We are proud to be the first financial institution to go live with the program, with hope that ‘Pennies for Change’ will have a positive impact not only in our community, but in communities across the country."
"We’re excited to support Westchester Federal Credit Union and United Way in this worthwhile endeavor," added Covera’s McCumber-Ploof. It fits hand in hand with credit union’s ‘people helping people’ philosophy and we look forward to helping other credit unions take advantage of the ‘Pennies for Change’ program for their communities
